Mucuna puriens is an ornamental plant, beneficial for male fertility, nerve balance, or testosterone metabolism.More
Mucuna puriens is an ornamental creeper up to fifteen meters long with distinctive purple flowers, which has been used in folk medicine since the Middle Ages. In traditional Indian medicine, it is considered a treasure - even aphrodisiac effects are attributed to this powerful herb. The most powerful part of the flower are its velvet beans.
These velvet beans are not just miracles of Ayurveda - they contain a very active substance called L-DOPA, which is the precursor of dopamine, into which it is converted by dopapecarboxylase. This substance has been used in the treatment of Parkinson's disease since the second half of the previous century. Unfortunately, the EU Committee regulation does not allow us to mention this property as an official health claim.
Mucuna puriens is also an important herb for the metabolism of the growth hormone, testosterone, prolactin or carbohydrates. It has a positive effect on the normal functionality of the reproductive system, immune system, is an antioxidant and contributes to nerve balance.
